The Phoenix Suns in 2013-14
When the 2013-14 NBA season began, more people probably expected the Phoenix Suns to
contend for the number one pick in the 2014 NBA Draft than a playoff spot in the competitive Western Conference. The Suns
have a young roster that is filled with talent, but many thought that they were nowhere near ready to contend with some of
the best teams in the National Basketball Association. This team has proven to be much better than anticipated this season,
and a big reason for that is rookie head coach Jeff Hornacek. This former NBA player has done an incredible job with this
young group of players, and he is definitely in the mix for the Coach of the Year award.
The Suns made a big trade in
the offseason to land budding star guard Eric Bledsoe from the Lo Angeles Clippers. Bledsoe spent much of his young career
learning from the best point guard in the game in Chris Paul, and it has shown in his first season with Phoenix. While in
injury has caused Bledsoe to miss a significant chunk of the season, when he's been on the court the former Kentucky Wildcat
has been nothing short of stellar. Bledsoe is already one of the better defenders in the league at the point guard position
and has an emerging all-around offensive game that is difficult to contain thanks to his incredible strength and athleticism.
Bledsoe should return in time to get back in a groove before the postseason, but the team will have to keep themselves in
the hunt in his absence.
One player that has done a great job this season, especially in Bledsoe's absence, is guard
Goran Dragic. Dragic is having the best year of his career, and it was considered a bit of a snub when he was not named to
the Western Conference All-Star team. Dragic is a well-rounded offensive weapon that nobody seems to be able to stop in 2013-14.
He's taken on the role as the go-to guy in the Phoenix offense, showing himself to be capable of more than many fans thought
before this season. With Dragic and Bledsoe in the backcourt, this team should be able to hold their own in a playoff series.
However, first the club has to play well enough down the stretch to earn a berth in the postseason.

team make it to the postseason. The Suns have made some deep playoff runs that have thrilled their fans, and Suns diehards
are hoping that this season will be one of the best in the history of this proud franchise. The Suns have won their division
six times, winning three consecutive division titles in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Phoenix has won their conference's championship
twice, in 1978 and 1993. Both times the Suns failed to win the NBA Championship, and fans are eagerly awaiting the season
in which this team finally breaks through. In 1993 the Suns battled valiantly behind Charles Barkley, but Michael Jordan and
the Chicago Bulls proved to be too much to handle. The Suns will look to add to their playoff history this season by reaching
