In 2001, guitarist Leigh Kakaty formed a band from the members of other Grand Rapids, Michigan bands, which was originally called TenFive. They released their first EP independently, and filmed a music video for their single "Somebody Like You." After their first collection of songs was received well, they signed a management deal with G&G Entertainment under the name Pop Evil. Thus began a long journey with a series of producers and record companies to try and bring their unique music to the masses. They released their first album Lipstick on the Mirror in August of 2008, which garnered much success and attracted a loyal fan base in the Grand Rapids area. The band even gave away free copies of their album to those devoted Michigan fans. In November of that year, Pop Evil's singles started hitting the air waves, hitting the charts inside the top 25 at Active Rock radio. Since then, the band has been touring and performing non-stop. Their most recent album, War of Angles is a testimony to their resilience, having to endure the struggles and frustrations that come with dealing with major record labels. But they have risen from the ashes of bad experiences and emerged as a top-notch band with a Top 5 Active Rock single. And although they've hit it big, they never forget the reason for their work, and the people who helped get them there. They owe a lot to their Grand Rapids fans, which they have relied on heavily to spread the word about their band.
