Michael McDonald first became known when he joined the Doobie Brothers in 1977 and led the band towards creating the jazzy, blue-eyed soul music they did. The Doobie Brothers broke up, McDonald decided to go solo and released his debut album If That's What It Takes with much success. One of McDonald's hits from that album "I Keep Forgettin' (Every time You're Near)" made it to the R&B top ten.
