Derek Vincent Smith is known by his stage name as Pretty Lights. He is an electronic music artist, who also owns Pretty Lights Music record label. Smith got his start when he began penning and producing his own hip hop music while going to his high school in Fort Collins, Colo. After high school, he went onto the University of Colorado at Boulder but dropped out to pursue his passion for music. In 2007 and 2008, Cory Eberhard and Smith burned the midnight oil playing nights for The Disco Biscuits, Widespread Panic and STS9. In the summer of 2009, now coined Pretty Lights, Smith and Eberhard participated in major festivals, including Bonnaroo, Rothbury, the Electric Daisy Carnival, Camp Bisco, Wakarusa and 10KLF. The following fall they kicked off a multi-city tour of the U.S. The year 2010 was a festive year for Pretty Lights. Today, Smith continues to take Pretty Lights globally, and is now accompanied in the live setting by drummer, Adam Deitch. Together, the duo create a raw energy rarely reached in the electronic music arena!
