and became its first commissioner in 1979, holding the post until 1990. Dave Gavitt lived and breathed basketball, also holding
the role as CEO of the Boston Celtics and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006 – the first Rhode Island
native to be enshrined.
Though Providence College is a small school of less than 4,000 students,
it has enjoyed an extremely rich NCAA Men's Basketball history and tradition. Legendary Hall of Fame coaches Lenny Wilkens
