Providence Friars Basketball Conference

Perhaps no major conference has seen more upheaval in recent years than the Big East. Long known as one of the premiere college basketball conferences in the country, traditional powerhouses like Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Louisville, and others may have left but the conference still has plenty of top notch teams. There are currently ten teams in the Big East: Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, Villanova, and Xavier. Every team except for Butler is a Catholic university, and all of them have a strong basketball tradition with a history of deep runs in the NCAA Tournament. The Big East is clearly still as competitive as it ever was and there is never a bad match up during the regular season. It remains a multi-bid conference when it comes to Tournament selection time and whichever Big East teams make it to the NCAA Tournament will certainly possess the capability to advance well into the tourney.

Providence Friars Basketball Rivalries

The Friars were one of the first teams to join the Big East and participated in its inaugural season. The other schools which were charter members of the Big East (Georgetown, Boston College, Syracuse, Connecticut, St. John's, and Seton Hall) are all well known for their incredible basketball programs and developed intense rivalries with one another as they battled each other time and time again. Of the remaining Big Eat teams Providence still has a big rivalry with St. John's and Seton Hall. Of course there is a bitter in state rivalry between Providence and Rhode Island and whenever the two schools play one another bragging rights and much more are on the line. Of course, as the years progress, expect new Big East rivalries to develop for the Friars.

Your palms get sweaty with each trip down the floor and each time a player from your favorite team lets loose a shot you hold your breath until the ball tickles the twine.
