Providence Park History
Providence Park first opened back in in 1926 as Multnomah Stadium. In 1966 the name was
changed to Civic Stadium, then changed again to PGE Park in 2001. In 2011 the venue was renamed Jeld-Wen Field, a name which
lasted for three years until the stadium became Providence Park in 2014. This is a field that routinely brings together talented
players that know how to put on a show, which is why Providence Park in Portland, Oregon is one of the staples of the local
sports scene. Providence Park has also hosted one of the most famous musicians in history. The King himself, Elvis Presley,
performed here when it was Multnomah Stadium. Elvis was at the height on his fame when he performed at this outdoor venue
in 1957, playing hits like "Heartbreak Hotel" and "Hound Dog" before tens of thousands of screaming fans.
Providence Park is known for a variety of events, but the Portland Timbers team of Major League Soccer
draws fans to the stadium on a regular basis. The Timbers play in the Western Conference of MLS and regularly take on some
of the top teams in the league. Portland has some big games coming their way this season, like their matchup with Real Salt
Lake on October 17th. Other great matchups include the Timbers' games against the Seattle Sounders on August 24th and the
Colorado Rapids on July 18th. Providence Park will also be the site of the 2014 MLS All-Star Game that will see Bayern Munich
face off with the MLS All-Stars.

of the premier venues in the MLS.
