Purdue Boilermakers Football History

Over the years, Purdue football has become a prominent part of the West Lafayette, Indiana campus, and that's not likely to change anytime soon. This is a program that dates all the way back to 1887, making it one of the oldest and most respected in the country, though it also helps that the Boilermakers have won 12 different conference titles since its inception. The Boilermakers have seen some great players come through the program and go on to star in the National Football League, including Bob Griese, Jim Everett, Drew Brees and more, helping them build a reputation for being "the cradle of quarterbacks" when it comes to developing signal callers. Put it all together and this is a program with a proud tradition and a history of snapping back from short-term down stretches.

Did you know that three different Boilermakers have finished as the runner-up in the Heisman race? Though no Boilermaker has yet won the coveted Heisman Trophy, Bob Griese finished second in 1966, Leroy Keyes did the same in 1968 and Mike Phipps accomplished the same in 1969.
