About The Band
Forming in 2009, the Portland, Oregon based
Radiation City is an indie pop group that includes wide ranging elements of genres into their music such as classic pop and
doo wop that gives a feeling of nostalgia while also feeling new at the same time. The group is comprised of five people,
originally formed by couple Elisabeth Ellison and Cameron Spies before adding on to become a full group. The first put their
music out into the world with the 2011 release of "The Hand That Takes You" on their own independent label, Apes Tapes. The
album was incredibly solid, but it wasn't until the group was picked up by the Tender Loving Empire label after being blown
away by their live shows that the group started to really make waves in the music scene. Their debut album was given a re-release
under the new label that grew the band into a huge success. The next year they released their debut EP "Cool Nightmare" along
with a music video to tide their growing fanbase over until their next major release. Their full length sophomore effort came
in the form of "Animals In The Median" and has been received incredibly well, garnering favorable reviews across the board.
A group as intriguing as Radiation City only needed one album to make it into the spotlight
and become a nationally known spectacle, and that album ended up being released twice. It was their debut album, "The Hand
That Takes You", that helped bring them to the point that they're at today. Released in early 2011 on the group's own Apes
Tapes label, it was when they were picked up by a bigger label that the album was given a re-release later that same year.
The re-release was a huge success, gaining a much wider audience and reaching farther than they ever had. Music and entertainment
outlets couldn't help but fawn over the group's debut effort, with Time calling it "charmingly evocative". For an indie band
to have the reach and impact that they did with their first album, it will be interesting to see where they go from here,
already releasing a successful sophomore effort.
Radiation City Trivia
As if the band's music and live
performances weren't endearing enough for audiences all over to fall in love, there's a romantic side to the band that some
may not realize. While the band formed initially with then-couple, now-engaged Cameron Spies and Elisabeth Ellison, there's
actually a second couple that makes up more of the bands members! While Cameron and Elisabeth were the original couples of
the band, when the group decided to expand they took on Patti King and Randy Bemrose. So far it has worked out wonderfully,
with the group creating beautiful music that anyone can enjoy. And so Radiation City joins the ranks of other bands like the
White Stripes, Arcade Fire, Fleetwood Mac, and more, Radiation City has gone on to do incredible things both within and outside
of the band.
If there's one thing that's for sure about Radiation City, it's that they
know how to rock their live shows like there's no tomorrow. The band was picked up by a bigger label when they caught one
of their live performances, so you can rest assured that Radiation City can put on one wild performance. And to make matters
even better, their live performances are complemented well with the fact that they're actually really good when it comes to
playing music! So when you head out to see Radiation City perform live, there's pretty much no doubt that you'll dancing with
a crowd of people doing the same thing in no time. Their music is impossible to not dance to, so even if you find yourself
a bit modest when it comes to dancing in public, it's something that you'll have to get over soon because it's pretty much
an inevitability. So get excited for seeing this amazing band play live, because you're in for a great time! And be sure to
secure your spot at the show by getting your tickets from StubHub while they're still available!
