Randolph Charles "Randy" Bachman was born in Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada on September 27th 1943 and quickly
took to musical performance. At a young age he was winning singing contests and when he was five he began studying the violin
at the Royal Toronto Conservatory. He soon found that he wasn't a fan of the rigid structure of violin study, and at the age
of 12 he transitioned to studying the guitar, even dropping out of school to focus on mastering his craft. In 1960 he formed
his first band with friend Chad Allen and began performing under the name Al and The Silvertones, which after a few years
transformed into The Guess Who. Within five years, The Guess Who topped the Canadian music charts and by 1970 they broke into
the big time with their #1 single, "American Woman."
