Born in Miami to Cuban parents, Raul Malo began playing bass guitar in high school and made his first recording with the Basics in 1987. In the late ‘80s and ‘90s Malo and his high school friend Robert Reynolds formed the country band the Mavericks and after securing success in that genre, Malo expanded into Latin and jazz music through the vehicle of rock’n’roll.
