Ray Manzarek was raised in Chicago, Illinois, and began taking piano lessons in his youth. He met Jim Morrison at UCLA in the '60s, and the beginnings of the Doors came soon thereafter. After hooking up with the rest of the Doors' original members, the group became one of the biggest groups of the entire decade, with songs like the classic "Light My Fire" to "Break on Through (To the Other Side)."
Even while gaining fame in the group the Doors, Ray Manzarek continued to dabble with a solo career all the while. Manzarek released solo albums starting with 1973's The Golden Scarab, and he continues with solo releases still today. Manzarek has been on tour with Robby Krieger, also of the Doors, as well as on his own!
