About Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
Jacksonville, Florida, the members of Red Jumpsuit Apparatus was formed over a decade ago by childhood friends Duke Kitchens
and Ronnie Winter. The two had a shared love for music from a young age, with them becoming close friends during music classes
taken in high school. Alongside a host of other young and up and coming musicians, the band officially came into being in
2003, compiling and releasing their first EP two years later.
After their debut EP, the band built up their reputations
and musical ability in the local Florida music scene. Red Jumpsuit Apparatus took advantage of the distinctly new millennium
style of self promotion, basing their entire early career off of local support buoyed by a growing presence both domestically
and abroad via Myspace. It would be a bold strategy that would definitely pay off big when they caught the eyes and ears of
Virgin Records exec Jason Flom, who soon sent them to the studio with the band's first big label record deal. Within a year
the band produced their first full length and was immediately swept into the emo/hardcore mainstream, performing on nationwide
tours alongside established world famous acts such as Rise Against, My Chemical Romance, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Saosin, Taking
Back Sunday, and The Used.
The band's music would weave itself into the fabric of alt rock music, being featured across
multiple mediums including film (Georgia Rule) and video games (the popular Madden series). The band also put considerable
effort into raising public awareness for issues such as domestic violence and teen suicide, with RJA playing at numerous benefits
and fundraisers including the nationally renowned Take Action! Tour. Despite the band's overwhelming early success, Red Jumpsuit
Apparatus has dealt with turmoil within the band, including the departure of founding member Duke Kitchens and other lineup
shuffles. However, the band has retained their pioneering original sound while simultaneously while simultaneously evolving
by leaps and bands as musicians and performers. With an 11 year track record of constant hit full lengths and EPs, Red Jumpsuit
Apparatus is one of the definitive defining bands of the emo/hardcore music scene.
Apparatus' debut album Don't Fake It would drop to commercial success in 2006, peaking at the #8 spot on the US rock chart
and quickly becoming a certified gold record. The album would be carried by future RJA anthems "Face Down" and "Your Guardian
Angel", alongside other successful singles such as "False Pretense" and "Damn Regret".
With expectations high, the band's
sophomore album Lonely Road would make waves in the music scene, peaking at the #3 spot on Billboard and solidifying RJA's
in the alt rock music world. Lonely Road would feature just two super hits in the form of "You Better Pray" and "Pen &
Paper", which nonetheless would solidify the album as a commercial success and a fan favorite.
Jumpsuit Apparatus' lengthy and zany band name stemmed not from any one band member's obsession with avant-garde fashion,
but by voting on a random mix of words.
Of the original founding members of the band, only Ronnie Winter (vocalist)
remains. The band's other founding members left in 2009 and 2011.
