Rent’s creator was never able to bask in the glory of his play’s success, as the night before its Off-Broadway
premiere, Jonathan Larson died of an aortic aneurysm. Though it took years to create, since its debut it has won dozens
of awards, including several Tonys, the Pulitzer Prize and The Obie. Over the years Rent has toured across the globe, and
is based on the opera La Boheme. Set in modern day New York City’s East Village, Rent follows the lives of friends
struggling to survive.
