Rice Eccles Stadium History
Rice Eccles Stadium first opened back in 1998 and is has been entertaining people ever
since. The stadium has been host to many important sporting events over the years, including hosting the opening and closing
ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics. The eyes of the world were upon Salt Lake City that year, and athletes from all over
the globe came to theRice-Eccles Stadiumto perform their best and represent their countries. In order to get ready for the
ceremonial Olympic events, the stadium's grass was paved over with asphalt, scoreboards were removed and the 2002 Olympic
cauldron was installed atop the southern bleachers. During the Olympic games the stadium was temporarily named Rice-Eccles
Olympic Stadium. Not only has the stadium hosted world events like the Olympics, but it is the regular home of the Utah Utes
football team and has also seen its share of big music events featuring artists like The Rolling Stones, U2 and Bon Jovi,
just to name a few.
