This tragic tale of power and its consequences contains one of the theatrical canon's most captivating depictions of a
king. Shedding light on Richard II's vulnerability and his eventual dethronement, the Royal Shakespeare Company has bought
this unsettling play back to life for their 2013 season starring RSC veteran David Tennant in the title role.
Having starred in critically-acclaimed performances of Hamlet and Love's Labour Lost, theatre fans cannot
afford to miss the opportunity to see Tennant in this challenging role. Secure your access to the current run by checking

The first part of William Shakespeare's legendary history tetralogy, this play is career-defining for the Bard, blurring
the lines between right and wrong in an emotionally wrought tale questioning the Divine Right of Kings. In it, we are first
met with an apparently indecisive and rather vain king settling a quarrel between his cousin Bolingbroke and Thomas Mowbray,
oblivious to the fact that the choices he makes in that moment shape his fate. Inevitably, his decisions are met with resistance,
particularly after he seizes all of his uncle's land and money upon his death. Having made an enemy out of the much-loved
Bolingbroke, the torn King can only watch on in horror as he is forced to give up his crown despite his belief that Heaven
gave him the right to reign.
Patrons of the RSC can look forward to an emotionally-charged performance from award-winning actor Tennant in the role
of the touchingly pitiable Richard. Brought to audiences by RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran, this performance of the history
play also stars Laurence Olivier Award-winning actor Oliver Ford Davies, who appeared with the aforementioned star in the
2008 production of Hamlet.
