About Richie Spice
into a family of musicians, Richie Spice has been immersed in the reggae music scene since birth. His brothers include famed
Jamaican artists Pliers, Snatcha Lion, and Spanner Banner. Richie made the jump into performing and songwriting at a young
age, the result of all of his raw musical talent combined with the extensive network of connections throughout the Jamaican
Richie would dive head first into the tour circuit, hitting all of the biggest festivals and tours
including Rebel Salute, White River Reggae Bash, and Reggae Sunsplash. He would soon be touring alongside some of the biggest
names in reggae, including Chaka Demus and Rita Marley. His music enjoyed success with a large cross section of audiences,
from the Pacific Southwest in the USA to the Caribbean islands to the far corners of Europe. He would soon become a regular
feature of the Sting festival, with standing ovation performances at both Jam World and Miami.
Richie Spice's pure musical
talent has not held him to just writing and performing, and his music has travelled over various mediums. His work would be
featured in video game mega franchise Grand Theft Auto, and his tracks would feature prominent positions in the British space-invader
action comedy Attack the Block. Collaborating with his brothers, Richie also is an executive of the Bonner Cornerstone music
label, where he works to promote young musical talent both in and out of the reggae scene.
has been a mainstay on the Jamaican music scene for more than a decade. His earliest hits include singles "Killing a Sound"
and "Shine", both of which would set high expectations for Richie's musical feature. His success was almost assured when reggae
legends Dennis Hayes and Clive Hunt produced for Richie's singles, with him eventually signing onto the major Caribbean label
Island Jamaica. His debut full length Living Ain't Easy dropped in 1999, in collaboration with Hunt, and featured his real
breakout single "Grooving my girl".
Richie's second album came just a year later, and would feature a plethora of name
making hits including "Earth a Run Red", "Land of Jamaica", and "Time So Rough". By 2007, Richie dropped his most influential
album to date with In the Streets to Africa, his fourth full length release. The album featured the reggae mega hit "Youth
Dem Cold" and received positive praise from both AllMusic and the BBC. The album eventually charted at the #6 position on
Billboard's Top Reggae Albums, making it Richie's best Billboard showing to date.
Richie is heavily
influenced by his spiritual roots. He has stated inspiration from the Book of Job for his fifth full length, and has intertwined
spiritual messages into much of his work.
Richie has received unique recognition from UK's dance music scene. His single
"Marijuana" would be remixed with dubstep rhythms by DJ Coki, and became an overnight sensation in the British club scene.
For the Poor has received vocal and financial support from Richie, who funnels a portion of earnings from performances towards
