Richmond Spiders Basketball Schedule

Robins Center, the Richmond, Virginia home of the Richmond Spiders basketball team is the place top be as the college basketball season gets underway. Last season the Spiders went 8-8 in Atlantic 10 conference play and will be aiming to improve upon that record and make their way up the conference standings en route to another NCAA Tournament berth. Every season Robins Center fills up with fans donning their red and blue to help root the Richmond Spiders on to another big A-10 win as they continue to build their resume for Selection Sunday.

Once again the Richmond Spiders will be taking on the best the Atlantic 10 has to offer at Robins Center including the St. Louis Billikens, the Virginia Commonwealth Rams, the La Salle Explorers, the George Washington Colonials, and others. Life in the A-10 can be difficult and the Spiders struggled at times during the 2013-2014 season, but they are returning several key players and should have the talent and motivation to pull of some big upsets and establish themselves as one of the dominant teams in the conference. Home Richmond Spiders games at Robins Center always sell quickly, especially against the VCU Rams, so be sure to get your tickets from StubHub as soon as possible so you can.

Richmond Spiders Basketball History

The history of Richmond Spiders basketball dates all the way back to 1913 and the program has taken part in the NCAA Tournament nine times, advancing to the Sweet Sixteen twice including during their last trip to the Big Dance in 2011. The Spiders got off to a slow start in the 2013-2014 season but really began to turn things around as the season came to a close and made it to the A-10 Tournament quarterfinals before falling to the VCU Rams. Expect the rivalry between the Spiders and the Rams to be even more heated this season as Richmond looks to exact revenge on VCU.

Richmond Spiders Basketball Conference

The Richmond Spiders are members of the Atlantic 10 which has long been one of the truly great conferences in the country. The A-10 had often been underrated by those not very familiar with college basketball but with its addition of some new great teams in recent years it has become a conference that is impossible to overlook. There are fourteen universities who participate in Atlantic 10 basketball: St. Louis, Virginia Commonwealth, George Washington, Saint Joseph's, Massachusetts, Dayton, Richmond, La Salle, St. Bonaventure, Rhode Island, Duquesne, George Mason, Davidson, and Fordham. There are several classic rivalries within the conference including the cross-town rivalry between La Salle and Saint Joe's who are both former Big 5 members, the in-state rivalry between VCU and Richmond, and the "Battle of the Rams" between Rhode Island and Fordham. With the recent additions of teams like Davidson, Virginia Commonwealth, and Saint Louis look for new rivalries to develop within the conference as these teams continually to face off against one another several times a year during A-10 play. If you are looking to see some top notch college basketball action, the Atlantic 10 is the place to be. As the conference continues to grow and gain more and more national attention every team in the conference will improve and not only make a mark on the conference but the national college hoops landscape.

The Experience

Many of the top student athletes in the world take the court in college basketball, when this is combined with some of the most passionate fans in all of sports there is an atmosphere in the arena that cannot be found anywhere else. When you set foot in Robins Center for a Richmond Spiders home basketball game this will all be clear. As the teams set up for opening jump ball the fans get on their feet and loudly cheer for their alma mater and hometown favorites.
