1971 in beautiful Roanoke, Virginia, the Roanoke Civic Center was home to many sports teams throughout history. Designed by
some of the best architects in the business, Roanoke Civic Center was the former base for such beloved teams as the Roanoke
Valley Rebels, the Roanoke Valley Vipers, Roanoke Express, Roanoke Dazzle, and Virginia Squires throughout its storied history
and is the current home ice rink for both the state hockey teams-- the Virginia Tech Hokies and the ice hockey team from Roanoke
College. From concerts to some of the best hockey games you'll find anywhere, this is a venue you don't want to skip.
Roanoke Civic Center Events
When center ice isn't being dominated by Virginia hockey teams, the area's premiere
venue attracts entertainers from all over the world to mount world-class performances in either the main Roanoke Civic Center,
the adjacent 14,396 square-foot exhibit hall, or the 2,440-seat Roanoke Performing Arts Theater located behind the complex.
Artists and comedians like the Avett Brothers, Bill Cosby, Lewis Black, and Daniel Tosh have played at Roanoke and the schedule
is always loaded. One week you might find a legend like Willie Nelson, the next you might find a popular band like Alice in
Chains and after that who knows, making it always a good idea to keep an eye on the schedule at Roanoke Civic Center.
Roanoke Civic Center Trivia
Did you know that Monday Night Raw has been held here on two different occasions?
one of the biggest pro wrestling events you'll find anywhere, Monday Night Raw is an absolute must-see for wrestling fans,
and the show came to Roanoke Civic Center both in 1997 and 2013.
No matter where you end
up sitting, though, you'll probably be thinking about just about anything other than your seat, as this is a venue that is
known for having great crowds to match the talented entertainers bringing the house down on stage. With so many great shows
to choose from, you know that you'll see some big-time talent, but one of the reasons that this venue is so great is because
of the music and sports lovers who routinely show up to provide the perfect backdrop for a highly anticipated event. Though
there are lots of ways to be entertained these days, there is still no substitution for a live concert experience or a major
spectator sport in person, giving you plenty of reasons to head out and see the show for yourself.
