Born in in Wisconsin in 1953, Robin Zander learned to play the guitar at age 12 and joined his first band in seventh grade. In 1973, his passion for music, along with his vocal and guitar talents, helped him land the role of lead singer and rhythm guitarist for a newly formed band from Rockford, Illinois, called Cheap Trick. The band's other members include, Rick Nielsen (lead guitar), Tom Petersson (bass guitar), and Bun E. Carlos (drums). Then in 1993, Zander released his debut self-titled solo album, but despite critical praise, it never did well commercially. Realizing there's no point in messing with a good thing, Zander came back to his band mates and Cheap Tricks has never looked back. In 2007, the Illinois Senate went so far as to pass a resolution that designates April 1st as a statewide Cheap Trick Day!
