Rochester Americans Schedule

As one of the oldest members of the AHL, the Rochester Americans have been a fixture in the Rochester, New York area since 1956. Hockey has long been a big draw throughout the state of New York, and the fans in Rochester let that be known loud and clear whenever a game is held at Blue Cross Arena. The arena is practically bursting at the seams whenever the Americans take the ice, and being one of the most successful franchises in the history of the league, the Rochester Americans are always more than capable of giving their fans something to cheer for. Do not miss a second of all of the great AHL hockey action taking place at Blue Cross Arena courtesy of the Rochester Americans.

On Friday, January 1oth another AHL powerhouse, the Hamilton Bulldogs come to Blue Cross Arena looking to take down the Americans on their home ice. This is never a task that is easy to accomplish as the Americans have historically had an incredible home record due to their incredible crowd support and home ice advantage. Friday, March 7th sees another monstrous game take place at Blue Cross Arena when in state rivals the Syracuse Crunch will be hitting the ice to square off against the Americans. These are always some of the most intense games of the season and you will not want to miss a second of the action. The Team

The Rochester Americans are the Buffalo Sabres' top affiliate, meaning that at any moment some of the team's biggest stars could be called up to play in the NHL. This also means that some of the best young hockey talent in the country hits the ice for the Americans and each and every player is looking to put on a show both for the home crowd and in an attempt to impress any NHL scouts who might be in the arena. Coach Chadd Cassidy will be looking to guide the Rochester Americans to another Calder Cup championship in 2014. He will be looking for help from captain Matt Ellis as well as center Luke Adam to provide some firepower that will light up the scoreboard. Of course, no hockey team can be successful without a solid defense and goalie Nathan Lieuwen will be anchoring a stout defense that should be able to help propel the Rochester Americans to the top of the standings.

The Experience

Hockey fans in general are some of the most passionate sports fans around, but nothing quite matches the fanaticism surrounding minor league hockey and Rochester Americans fans are some of the most dedicated and vociferous fans in the entire AHL. On game day at Blue Cross Arena, the fans file in and take their seats when the cheering and chanting begins. As the clock winds down closer and closer to the dropping of the puck the crowd works itself into a frenzy. Finally both teams are ready for face off and the excitement really begins. Thunderous, bone rattling hits, incredible displays of speed and agility, powerful slapshots, and tremendous saves set the arena on fire for the following three periods of world class minor league hockey. By the time the final buzzer sounds your voice is hoarse and your palms are stinging from clapping and giving high fives and you will already be planning a return trip.

The League

The American Hockey League, or the AHL, is the premiere minor league hockey league in the United States and Canada and since the 2011 season each team has an affiliation with an NHL team assuring the fans that some of the best minor league players in the country all looking to stand out from the crowd to move up to the pro ranks. The AHL has a strong tradition that dates all the way back to the 1930′s with the Hershey Bears standing as the most decorated franchise as far as Calder Cups are concerned. The league has its own hall of fame and features outdoor games and all star games each season along with its playoffs and championship.

However, there is another American, Paul Gardner, who holds the record for goals scored in a season with 61. As for defensive records, Bob Perreault holds the record for most wins as a goalie as well as the record for most shutouts with 16.The Rochester Americans have appeared in the Calder Cup Finals sixteen times and have won the championship six times. While the Americans are now the affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres, when they first entered the AHL they were joint affiliates of the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
