Our first Rising Star and signature program partner in 2013

In the spirit of offering more than dollars, StubHub lent its platform to New Orleans nonprofit The Roots of Music in 2013, shining a spotlight on the organization through a unique film promotion offering $1 donation for every view during the period of one week and raising more than $50,000 for the organization.
The Roots of Music is a New Orleans-based non-profit helping at-risk kids through music education, tutoring and mentoring–unlocking their potential as individuals, and building a nationally-recognized marching band along the way. The organization uses New Orleans' musical heritage as a stepping stone to change lives and has garnered attention both locally – with more than 600 children on a waiting list to join the program – and nationally, with the Roots of Music becoming the youngest ever marching band to perform at the Rose Parade in Pasadena in January 2013.
The Roots of Music offers children of New Orleans ages 9 - 14 free musical education, academic mentoring, and a warm meal five days per week; after school Mondays through Thursdays, on Saturdays, and throughout the summer.
Each year, on average, The Roots of Music's program:
- Delivers over 2,160 hours of music education
- Provides up to 360 hours of academic mentoring and homework assistance per student
- Supplies more than 30,480 nutritious hot meals
- Goes on 1,440 bus journeys
- Supplies and maintains over 150 instruments, valued at more than $68,000, in order that each student has his or her own instrument for sole use through the duration of the program.
Through a $50,000 donation from StubHub in 2013, The Roots of Music gained its first ever corporate sponsor, helping to ensure The Roots of Music can continue to offer this program free of charge throughout the year. In addition, StubHub is providing the organization pro bono marketing counsel to expand its fundraising capacity and create a formalized corporate sponsorship program that will build sustainable funding streams to support the organization's work into the future. StubHub also underwrote creation of a mini documentary featuring the organization, which can be viewed above.
