Ryan Adams tickets - Ryan Adams Tour

Ryan Adams Schedule

As one of the most coveted and talented musicians to materialize from the alt-country music scene of the '90s, Ryan Adams seamlessly blends the earnest angst of a vocalist/songwriter with the swaggering brazenness of a garage band. Adams picked up playing the guitar at a young age as well as writing short stories, which paved the way for his prolific songwriting career. Adams is best known for tunes like, "New York, New York" and "To Be Young." To treat yourself to a Ryan Adams concert, you can often find him at places like the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts in Burlington, Vermont; Camden Waterfront in Camden, New Jersey; The Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey; Belly Up in Aspen, Colorado; Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colorado; and more. To find out when Ryan Adams is headed for a stage near you, sign up for event updates right here through StubHub.

Ryan Adams Background

Ryan Adams' appetite for writing and music developed early on. Hailing from Jacksonville, North Carolina, Ryan Adams was raised by an English teacher and on the musical fare of George Jones, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn and Merle Haggard. At the tender age of eight, he was motivated by Edgar Allen Poe to pen his own short stories. By the time Adams hit his teenage years, punk rock caught his attention, and he also encountered the works of iconic writers like Henry Miller and Jack Kerouac. He then picked up playing the electric guitar. At the age of 15, Adams started penning his own musical material. A year later, he founded the group known as the Patty Duke Syndrome (PDS). Inspired by the music of Husker Du, PDS was once defined by Adams as being "an arty noise punk band." PDS cultivated a loyal fan base in the Jacksonville area. The band was moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, when Adams was 19. His goal was to grow the band's reputation in a bigger city. But, Adams couldn't fight his urge to do something more to showcase his pop and country inspirations.

He split from PDS in 1994 and founded the group Whiskeytown. Whiskeytown was also comprised of Caitlin Cary (violinist) and Phil Wandscher (guitarist), Eric "Skillet" Gilmore (drummer) and Steve Grothman (bassist). With their lineup in place, Whiskeytown made their debut album, Faithless Street. The album earned its reputation as a media darling. In fact many writers hinted that Whiskeytown could be the next alt-country heroes comparable to Nirvana's impression on the grunge scene.

However, those predictions didn't come to fruition. Whiskeytown's lineup went through some dramatic changes with Adams and Wandscher serving as the last men standing when Stranger's Almanac was ready to hit the streets. Cary eventually came back but Wandscher split and then the band's lineup continued to evolve. In 1999, the remaining members, Adams and Cary, along with some session musicians, cut their last album, Pneumonia. The album never made it into the hands of fans and Whiskeytown officially disbanded. Never one to sit still, Adams immediately pursued a solo career. He headed into a recording studio in Nashville and collaborated with musicians/songwriters David Rawlings and Gillian Welch. Heartbreaker served as his debut album as a solo artist. The album fared well for his first effort, drawing raving reviews along with a highly publicized plug from the great Elton John. Soon after, Adams inked a deal with Lost Highway Records. Although Pneumonia had been shelved previously, it was released in 2001. Gold dropped that same year, featuring the single, "New York, New York." The hit track resonated with individuals nationwide in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

As a highly productive songwriter, Adams worked tirelessly on original material that amounted to enough to fill four albums. He condensed the 60 songs into a 13-tune album titled Demolition (2002). In 2003, Rock n Roll arrived, which was issued at the same time as Love Is Hell - a double-EP. Adams continued to stick to a rigorous tour schedule into the following year. In the spring of 2005, he put out Cold Roses, a double-disc set. Jacksonville City Nights dropped in the fall. Both Cold Roses and Jacksonville City Nights were supported by his new band, the Cardinals.29 surfaced by the close of the year. Not one to ever sit still, Adams continued to post songs on his website prior to the arrival of his next records, which were Easy Tiger (2007) and Cardinology (2008) with the Cardinals. Adams stepped back into the studio throughout the late 2000s, coming out with Orion (2010); III/IV (2010); Ashes & Fire (2011); and Ryan Adams (2014).
