San Antonio Stars Schedule

With a fresh image for the new season, the San Antonio Stars may have only changed their name, but they have a new outlook for 2014. Trying to rebound from an up-and-down 2013 season where the Stars did not make the WNBA playoffs for the first time since 2006, the team is re-branding themselves as the San Antonio Stars, looking to revitalize the fan base in the hopes of getting the team back where it belongs this season. The Stars have plenty of star power on their roster, with leading scorer Danielle Adams, leading rebounder Jayne Appel, and assist machine Danielle Robinson all providing the Stars with incredible play every night.

Beloved in the San Antonio community, the Stars are always one of the league leaders in attendance, treating the community to excellence on and off the court. This is a team that showcases some of the brightest stars in the WNBA on a regular basis, and you'll definitely be in store for some highlight-reel moves, spectacular blocked shots and smooth jumpers that will have you jumping out of your seat on a regular basis. Once you're there in the middle of a nail-biter that everyone has been talking about, you'll definitely be glad that you're not still sitting at home wondering what the atmosphere of the big Stars' game is like.

The Stars, as they're known now after years of being the Silver Stars, know that they can do a lot better than they showed in 2013, even though there were still some great moments that had fans at the edges of their seats throughout the season. The Stars have a team that can do a little bit of everything, with some lights-out shooters on the perimeter and some big-time playmakers inside. Put it all together and the Stars definitely have what it takes to get right back into the playoff picture this season, providing some major reasons for optimism as the Stars look to reach their potential and shoot their way up the standings.

San Antonio Stars History

The San Antonio Stars originated as the Utah Starzz as one of the original eight WNBA franchises when the league began in 1997. The Starzz never achieved the success that their owners, who also owned the Utah Jazz, had hoped and they wanted to sell the team rather than continue fielding a team. In late 2002, the Starzz were sold to an ownership group in San Antonio and officially became the San Antonio Silver Stars. I t would take a few seasons for the team to turn itself around, but like their brother franchise the San Antonio Spurs, their ownership was committed to building a championship team from the bottom up.

By 2007, after many smart roster moves, the Silver Stars saw their hard work pay off, finishing second in the Western Conference and making the playoffs for the first time since they moved to San Antonio. Though they lost to the Phoenix Mercury in the Conference Finals, the Silver Stars knew that they had the talent to win it all. 2008 was an even better season for San Antonio, finishing first in the Western Conference and making it all the way to the WNBA Finals. Since then, the Silver Stars have been one of the most consistent teams in the league, helping them build a major fan base that shows up in a big way each and every time they take to the court.
