The San Antonio Spurs in 2013-14

The San Antonio Spurs are putting together yet another fine season in the Western Conference, and look like a contender for the top seed in the conference playoffs. The Spurs have one of the best teams in the conference, as they seem to be on an annual basis. Led by head coach Greg Popovich, this team continues to win no matter what happens. This season has seen some key cogs in the Spurs machine go down with injuries, but the team just keeps plugging away. Popovich has earned the reputation for being one of the best head coaches in the National Basketball Association, and for good reason. The Spurs know that they've got some tough competition out West this season, especially in the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder took down San Antonio in the playoffs two seasons ago after the Spurs took the first two games in the series, and the history between these two organizations could continue to grow this postseason, potentially in the Western Conference Finals.

Big man Tim Duncan continues to defy the aging process like few seven-footers before him. Sure, Duncan is not the dominant force he was in his prime, but he's still very good, efficient and a great leader. When point guard Tony Parker, who one could argue is the team's best player currently, has missed time due to injury this season, Duncan has stepped up his game and show flashes of the player that was once an unstoppable force in the NBA. Duncan has not logged major minutes this regular season, and Popovich is likely trying to save the veteran's legs for a deep postseason run.

The Spurs made it all the way to the NBA Finals last season and lost in crushing fashion, but one huge bright spot in the playoffs last year was forward Kawhi Leonard. Leonard looks to be the future star of this franchise, but for now the youngster is content with being a reliable role player for this Spurs team. Leonard has missed some time due to injury this season, but he should be a big part of the team's plans down the stretch and in the postseason.
