San Jose Earthquakes Schedule in 2014

The San Jose Earthquakes are ready to make their opponents quiver as they take on all of the best clubs that Major League Soccer has to offer. The Earthquakes have a roster riddled with talent, one that is capable of taking this team to the top in 2014. The Earthquakes play in the Western Conference of MLS, a conference that features some tough opponents that the Earthquakes fight for playoff positioning with each and every season. San Jose narrowly missed out on earning a playoff seed in 2013, and are looking to take their game to the next level in 2014 and make the postseason. This team struggled a bit out of the gate this season, but they are looking to right the ship and shake things up as the season progresses.

The Earthquakes have fared well against FC Dallas this season, taking home the victory in both 2014 matchups. These two teams met twice in May, and San Jose earned 2-1 victory in both contests. Too bad the team can't pay Dallas every time out, but that's not the case so the Quakes are going to have to step up their game.

The Earthquakes will have their hands full when Real Salt Lake visits San Jose this season on August 30th. Salt Lake is looking strong coming off their successful 2013 campaign, so this game should be a real test for the Earthquakes. San Jose will be looking to play their best when Salt Lake hits the turf at Buck Shaw Field in Santa Clara, but there are plenty of other great games on the docket.

San Jose Earthquakes History

The San Jose Earthquakes have deep roots in the realm of soccer, dating back to the '70s when the Earthquakes were formed as part of the North American Soccer League (NASL). After bouncing around leagues from the Western Soccer League (WSL) and American Professional Soccer League, the San Jose soccer team eventually joined the Major League Soccer in its inaugural year, then known as the San Jose Clash. The Earthquakes re-adopted their original name in the 1999 season, and they began to rise to power in the early 2000s, taking home the MLS Cup in 2001 and again in 2003. Despite the Earthquakes' dominance in the MLS in the early to mid 2000s, San Jose soccer fans got some bad news with the 2006 season, when the Earthquakes franchise moved to Houston and became the Houston Dynamo. After two years without a soccer team, the city of San Jose resurrected the Earthquakes name in 2008, re-forming a new San Jose Earthquakes MLS team that has been dominating the soccer field ever since. The Earthquakes took home the MLS Western Conference title in 2012, also securing the Supporters' Shield that year as well. Now that the Earthquakes are back in action and going strong in the MLS, Northern California soccer fans can stay tuned to see the Quakes take home another MLS Cup win in upcoming seasons.

San Jose Earthquakes Rivalries

The fans of the San Jose Earthquakes are some of the best you'll find in North American Soccer, and nothing gets them more fired up than a big rivalry matchup. When it comes to solid competition in Major League Soccer, there are several Western Conference matchups that create some of the biggest rivalries in pro soccer, and this includes teams that match up against the San Jose Earthquakes. This West Coast superpower has rivalries with other nearby teams like the L.A. Galaxy, Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers, fellow Western Conference heavyweights. The Galaxy might be the biggest rival of the Quakes, as the teams face off every year in what is known as the California Clasico. This rivalry has been going on since the league's formation in 1996, although it saw a brief hiatus in the mid-2000s with the Earthquakes' move. The Earthquakes and Seattle Sounders have also historically played one another for the Heritage Cup, marking another storied rivalry for the MLS team in the Sounders. Fans pack the stadium to see these matchups, and you can join them in the stands this season.
