San Jose State Spartans Football Schedule

The San Jose Spartans of the Mountain West Conference may have finished 6-6 last season, but they were one of the most exciting offenses in the country thanks to the golden arm of quarterback David Fales. Fales led the Spartans to the sixth ranked passing offense in the country in 2013, throwing for over 4,100 yards and 33 touchdowns. David Fales loved connecting with his favorite wide receiver Chandler Jones, who scored 15 touchdowns before being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cleveland Browns in May. David Fales has also made the jump from the Mountain West Conference to the National Football League after two straight seasons of 4,100 passing yards, signing with the Chicago Bears this spring. The Spartans are looking to a crop of new talent to help replace two of the most exciting players in the conference.

The Spartans have put together an impressive out of conference schedule, highlighted by their trip to Auburn, Alabama, where they will take on the runner up in last year's National Championship game. The Auburn Tigers were the #1 rushing team in the country last season, rushing for an astounding 328 yards per game. Running back Tre Mason has left the SEC for the NFL, but amazing Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall will be ready to try to dismantle the Spartans defense the way he did so many others last season on the Tigers incredible run to the season's final game. Spartans fans should make the trip to Auburn and cheer their team on in a game that could be one of the program's most incredible upsets.

The Spartans have a lot of rivals in the Mountain West Conference and Spartans fans are always up for making life miserable for their MWC foes at all home games at Spartan Stadium. One rivalry game you won't want to miss is the September 27 matchup with the Nevada Wolfpack. The Wolfpack finished the 2013 season with a 4-8 record, but with fresh talent and a clean slate, the Wolfpack will be looking to take out their rivals on their home field. San Jose State Spartans History

The San Jose State Spartans football program dates back to 1893 when they competed against local high schools and colleges. The golden years of the Spartans program occurred in the 1930's and 40's when they were one of the most dominant football programs in the country. With eight conference championships in a little over a decade, the Spartans put their football program on the national map, especially with undefeated seasons in 1932 and 1939. The Spartans were an independent team from their inception in 1893 to 1968 when they joined the Pacific Coast Athletic Association, where they remained until they joined the Big West Conference in 1988. The Spartans were not destined to stay long in the Big West, moving to the Western Athletic Conference in the mid 1990's, a move that proved quite beneficial for the Spartans. With two bowl victories during their tenure, the Spartans were able to move once more, getting the call to the Mountain West Conference in 2013.

San Jose State Spartans Rivalries

There are many active rivalries on the west coast, from USC-UCLA, Stanford-Cal and Arizona-Arizona State. Within the Mountain West Conference, there are many that burn just as intense, including the Valley Rivalry between the San Jose State Spartans and the Fresno State Bulldogs. Both of these programs have enjoyed a lot of success in their storied histories, especially against each other. The Valley Rivalry, referencing the Central California Valley that connects the two schools, began way back in 1921. Every season with bragging rights and the Valley Cup Trophy on the line, these two teams always seem to rise to the occasion against each other. Though Fresno State currently leads the series between the two schools, the margin is narrow.
