About Sandy Hackett's Rat Pack
Hackett's Rat Pack centers around the four inseparable comrades – Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Joey Bishop, and
Dean Martin – and their deep affection and irrepressible sense of fun. Sandy Hackett, who plays Joey Bishop, would be
deeply inspired by his comedian father Buddy Hackett. Sandy also entered the world of comedy, following his father's example
of extensive reading, attentive studying, and constant refining of his comedy techniques. At the age of eleven, Sandy accompanied
a performance of his father's at the "Rowan and Martin Laugh-In." Sandy's talent got the attention of the show's producers,
and the youngster made his professional television debut. The good-natured humor of a Buddy Hackett show would forever guide
Sandy in his development as a writer, producer, and entertainer.
After earning his degree in Hotel Administration at
the University of Las Vegas, Nevada and leading "Sandy Hackett's Talent Showcase" for decades, Hackett received a phone call
from a long-time family friend, Joey Bishop. He encouraged Hackett to play him in an upcoming HBO movie about the Rat Pack.
Although Hackett did not get the role, the idea of playing Bishop inspired him to create a show about the legendary quartet
– and so "Sandy Hackett's Rat Pack" was born.
Other members of Sandy Hackett's Rat Pack are Danny Grewen as Frank
Sinatra, Louie Velez as Sammy Davis, Jr., and Tom Wallek as Dean Martin. Grewen hails from San Francisco and has been playing
the part of Sinatra since 2005. As a boy, Grewen would practice his Sinatra songs and swagger in the mirror at home. Grewen
also performs in several bands: High Society, The Carlitos, and Horace-Scope.
Velez, a native of Amsterdam, New York,
has been performing as Sammy Davis, Jr. since 1987. His physical appearance, not to mention his act, bears an uncanny resemblance
to the original Davis that has been acknowledged by Davis' own family and Wayne Newton, among others. Velez has appeared alongside
stars such as the original Drifters, Rip Taylor, Louie Anderson, Rich Little, Steve Rossi, Phyllis McGuire, Kenny Rogers,
Marty Allen, Jermaine Jackson, and Debbie Reynolds, just to name a few.
Brooklynite Tom Wallek plays Dean Martin. Wallek
is an impressionist, actor, and comedian. Wallek and Sandy Hackett became friends after Tom moved to Las Vegas in 1984. Hackett
gave Wallek stage time in his Talent Showcase at the Mint Hotel, allowing the up-and-coming performer to hone his talent.
After landing a part in Comedy Cabaret in 1991 at the Maxim, he went on to perform the lead in Tropical Heat at the Rio, opposite
Hackett has a history of producing top-notch shows in the hotel and casino circuit.
He would found "The Sahara Showcase of Talent" at the Sahara Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas before renaming the event "Sandy
Hackett's Talent Showcase" and running it for another ten years. Hackett would go on to produce his showcase at the Mint and
Dunes Hotel & Casinos, the Sahara Tahoe and the Sahara Reno. His showcase would see over ten thousand performers, including
first-time appearances from talents such as George Wallace, Kenny Kerr, Tony D'Andrea, The Unknown Comic, Gary Muledeer, Howie
Mandel, and Andrew "Dice" Clay, among many others.
Sandy Hackett and his late father made a legendary
duo. Bob Hackett sadly passed away in 2003, but can still be heard as the Voice of God in the Rat Pack show.
