Every 30 years, the planet Saturn makes a full revolution around the sun. In astrology, this is known as a “Saturn
return”—the time when the planet Saturn returns to the same elliptical position it was in at the time of your
birth. It’s said to be a natural rite of passage that allows one to mature and grow a little wiser. In Saturn Returns,
the concept is explored through the loves of a man’s entire life.
Building on the concept of the Saturn return, playwright Noah Haidle has constructed an ingenious story. The audience
is introduced to Gustin, a man who they will see at three different points in his life: 28, 58 and 88. At each of these
ages, Gustin is played by a different actor, and interacts with a different female character—his wife, his daughter
and eventually his nurse. The female characters, however, are all played by the same actress.
This unique play will provoke questions about your own life, and the key decisions you’ve made as you’ve matured—as
well as the decisions you have yet to make. As the story flows, the character Gustin is interacting with doesn’t really
change, though he changes immensely. Get theater tickets to this thought-provoking play now.
