The Savages formed in London, after Guitarist Gemma Thompson got the idea to form a band with singer, Jehnny Beth. Thompson says she took the band's name from her favorite fantasy books, such as Lord of the Flies. The band performed their first gig in January 2012, during a concert for the popular British Sea Power rock band, with whom they shared the same manager. Critics quickly took note of the band's creative sound and unique perspective.
