If you know the name Paul Waaktaar-Savoy, it's probably because you know him as the songwriter for classic '80s New Wave
band a-ha. With that band, he struck it big writing "Take On Me." But in the mid-'90s, after a-ha's fame seemed
to have passed, he started up a new outfit—Savoy. To date, the band has remained a less well-known but still brilliant
pop group.
Savoy started in 1995, forming as a trio with Paul Waaktaar-Savoy as its frontman. Savoy's wife, Lauren Savoy, provided
vocals and guitar, while Frode Unneland pounded the skins. Though they have never achieved much renown in America outside
of indie-rock circles, they are huge in their native Norway, and they have been nominated for three Norwegian Grammys—the
Spellemannprisen.
Looking to rock out to a new band? Savoy has been around a while, but people are constantly discovering them for the first
time. They have a lot of albums in their discography, all of which have received pretty high marks from indie-rock review
sites. If you want to see what they're cooking now, secure Savoy tickets. Concert
tickets to their shows can be found above.
