Located in Scarborough, Maine, Scarborough Downs was completed in 1950 as a racetrack designed for thoroughbred horse races.
At the time, it was the only one of its kind in the state. When harness racing became popular in the 1960s, the track accommodated
both types of racing for awhile, but in 1972, the track hosted harness racing only. In the 2000s, track owner Joseph Ricci
offered simulcast wagering and simulcast races from leading thoroughbred and harness tracks based in North America. Today,
