The gorgeous Selena Gomez is at the top of her game these days. After a long stint as the star of the hit Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place, the charismatic actress branched out with edgier roles, serving as a voice actress in the 2012 film Hotel Transylvania and starring in the hit flick Spring Breakers. Her music career is red-hot as well—her single "Slow Down" topped the charts within a week of its release. With her spectacular voice and dynamic stage presence, Gomez's live concert is a must-see.

Q: Which superstar performer was Gomez's co-star on Barney & Friends?

A: Singer/actress Demi Lovato starred alongside Gomez, and the two have remained close friends.

The Singer:

Selena Marie Gomez made her debut as a child actress on the hit children's show Barney & Friends. In 2007, her starring role as Alex Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place catapulted her to fame. She scored a record deal with Hollywood Records the following year, and became the founder and lead singer of the pop band Selena Gomez & the Scene. Their studio albums Kiss & Tell (2009), A Year Without Rain (2010), and When the Sun Goes Down (2011) were certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and have launched Platinum-certified singles "Naturally," "Who Says," and "Love You like a Love Song."

After the release of several TV films and their accompanying soundtracks, Gomez made her film debut in Ramona and Beezus in 2010 and starred in Monte Carlo in 2011. Upon the conclusion of Wizards of Waverly Place and the hiatus of Selena Gomez & the Scene in 2012, she focused on her film career, with subsequent roles in Hotel Transylvania and Spring Breakers. Her debut solo album, Stars Dance, was released in July 2013, and was preceded by its lead single "Come & Get It." The album's sophomore single, "Slow Down," was issued in June 2013.

"Slow Down," a dubstep-influenced track, first became available as an instant digital download with the iTunes Store pre-order of the disc. On August 13, 2013, it was released to American mainstream radio as the album's second single. Gomez has promoted the album through a series of live performances, which include the Billboard Music Awards and the MTV Movie Awards. She is additionally expected to embark on the Stars Dance tour throughout 2013. Since the album's release, Gomez has announced that she will take a second musical hiatus in 2014. Outside of her work in the entertainment industry, Gomez is involved in philanthropic activities through charity work and various social and environmental causes.

Born in Grand Prairie, Texas, Gomez began her acting career at age seven, playing Gianna on Barney & Friends. She eventually had minor roles in Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over and the TV film Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial By Fire. Gomez also starred in the TV movie Brain Zapped. In 2004, Gomez was discovered by the Disney Channel in a USA-wide talent search. Gomez guest-starred on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and had a guest appearance—that later turned into a recurring role—on Hannah Montana from seasons two to three.

Gomez earned her starring role in Wizards of Waverly Place in early 2007. The show's premiere attracted an audience of 5.9 million, making the show a runaway hit. In 2008, Gomez appeared in Another Cinderella Story, the direct-to-DVD sequel to the 2004 Hilary Duff film, alongside Drew Seeley. She also had a minor voiceover role as one of the mayor's ninety-six daughters in Horton Hears a Who!, released in March of that year. In April, Lacey Rose, of Forbes, ranked Gomez as being fifth on their "Eight Hot Kid Stars To Watch" list, describing Gomez as being "a multi-talented teen."

Hit albums from Selena Gomez & the Scene have included Kiss & Tell (2009), which reached number 9 in the United States, A Year Without Rain (2010), which climbed to number 4 in the US, and When the Sun Goes Down (2011), which shot to number 3 in the US.
