Sharon Van Etten Schedule
Hailing from New Jersey, talented artist Sharon Van Etten grew up in a full house as
the middle child of five children. Her parents, Stephen and Janice, possessed a "big vinyl collection. We would always listen
to it. We went to shows all the time of their favorite musicians and my brothers and sisters and I would pretend we were in
a band together," Van Etten said. Her musical household brimmed with tunes from the Beatles and the Kinks. She additionally
took up piano and clarinet as well and showcased her talents in choir groups and musicals at school throughout her childhood.
In her formative teen years, she taught herself how to pick a guitar and write songs. "I felt better after every time that
I sang, but I didn't exactly know why," she said, referencing her first songwriting sessions.

Sharon Van Etten Background
1999, Van Etten left her native New Jersey to go to college at Middle Tennessee State to pursue studies as a live sound engineer.
She ended up dropping out after a year. "I tried to pursue music, but the guy I was seeing wasn't at all supportive," Van
Etten said. "So, I just had to keep it secret and write and play in my room. Then, whenever he would go out of town, I'd go
play an open-mic... and just explode. Like, 'I've been holding this in for so long! He's finally gone!' I worried that it
was too much for people."
After years of being trapped in an unhealthy relationship, Van Etten went back home in 2004
to reset. She leaned on music for healing, penning a string of soul-searching tunes about being imprisoned in a toxic relationship.
With her family behind her, she was able to perform her songs live.
She also started recording her songs at home and
releasing CDRs independently. She put one in the hands of TV on the Radio's Kyp Malone. Van Etten explained in an interview
with AV Club that, "He said, 'You need to move to New York.' He helped book my first couple of shows, he introduced me to
venues in New York - he really gave me my start in Brooklyn. I feel really lucky."
Van Etten experienced another stroke
of luck when one of her homegrown CDs ended up with Espers, an acid-folk group based out of Philadelphia. the incident proved
to be fortuitous - Van Etten was asked to tour with vocalist Meg Baird.
Because I Was in Love dropped in 2009. That
same year, Van Etten also lent her voice to Hospice, The Antlers' album. By the time 2010 rolled around, Van Etten captured
the attention of The National and Bon Iver. Her reputation was further cemented by her opening spot at the Pitchfork Music
Festival. She also served as support for the group, Junip.
Van Etten's sophomore LP, Epic. After Epic's release, Van
Etten eventually gained more high-profile concerts, supporting Neko Case, The Antlers and The National. She also joined Bon
