Sick Puppies was formed in the late 1990s by high school students in Melbourne, Australia. The members of the group bonded over their love of Silverchair, and soon were writing their own material in the style of this band and others like Green Day and Rage Against the Machine. The band recorded a demo and submitted it for the Triple J Unearthed band competition in 2000. They co-won the Sydney-region, which led to a management deal. They were soon recording their first album. But after the release of their first EP, the record company went under and the band began looking for a fresh start. They were encouraged by rock photographer Robert Knight to move to Los Angeles and put an ad on Craigslist for a new drummer. After filling the position, the band released their second album, which became a huge success. Their video for the single "All the Same" was a hit on YouTube, and their single "My World," peaked at No. 20.
