Sigur Ros is the product of the brilliant minds of guitarist and vocalist Jon Thor Birgisson; bassist Georg Holm; and drummer Agust. Formed in 1994 while the band's members were just teenagers, Sigur Ros was named after a sister of one of the Reykjavik, Iceland's band members. The band surfaced from the same creative and colorful Icelandic music scene as Amiina. They released Von in 1997, and Von Brigoi in 1998. They reaped international acclaim with Agaetis byrjun; it was then the band was joined by Kjartan Sveinsson. Over the next few years, they strengthened their brand through word of mouth. They have released several more popular albums, with Hvarf/Heim serving as a double album. Hvarf features reworkings of songs going back to the band's initial album, Heim. The double album was a complement to the film, Heima - a documentary showcasing footage of the band's tour in Iceland.
