Slaughterhouse Background

Slaughterhouse came together in late 2008. The formation happened after Royce da 5'9", Joell Ortiz and Crooked I collaborated on the song, "Slaughterhouse," from the Halfway House album by Joe Budden. They agreed to establish a group, borrowing the name from the song. The bandmates all have checkered pasts when it comes to the music industry, and they address those issues head on in the tune, "Move On," letting the media know that their pasts are in the rear view mirror.

Their eponymous album arrived in the late summer of 2009. Mr. Porter of D12, StreetRunner, DJ Khalil and The Alchemist all contributed to the album's production. Their debut effort sold 18,000 copies within its first week of hitting the streets. Their sophomore album release was scheduled to be released in 2010 and was tentatively coined as No Muzzle by Crooked I. But in late 2009, the band decided their second effort should be put out on a major label.

A flurry of rumors about a Shady Records/Slaughterhouse record signing elevated, and eventually, Joell Ortiz penned a post on Twitter insulting E1 Entertainment for hindering Shady talks. The group issued a song while still with E1 dubbed, "Beamer, Benz or Bentley (ShadyMegaMix)." The group, sans Joe Budden, was also included on an Eminem single, "Session One," while also still with the E1 label. The song was part of the iTunes deluxe edition of the Eminem Recovery album.

The Slaughterhouse EP arrived in early 2011, which featured two remixes and four new tracks.

By the summer of the following year, Royce revealed in an interview with Jenny Boom Boom that Slaughterhouse had a pre-album mixtape in the works scheduled to come out in the first week of August 2012. A promotional video to support the mixtape came out in early August, and promoted the tune, "See Dead People." "Truth or Truth" came out on August 16, followed by On the House on August 19.

Their second studio album was released under the Shady Records label and was entitled, Welcome to: Our House. By November 23, 2012, the album had reportedly sold nearly 150,000 copies in the United States.

In the spring of 2013, Slaughterhouse announced that they had stepped into the studio to work on their third studio album release. The album, Glass House, features production work by Illmind, Cardiak, DJ Premier, AraabMuzik and J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League.
