Snoop Dogg Background

Snoop Dogg was born Calvin Broadus in Long Beach, California. He earned his nickname early on in life, as his mother thought that he looked like Snoopy from the Peanuts cartoons. Calvin's teenage years were not void of problems, as he encountered serious issues with the law for drug possession. In order to find a way out of his troubles, Snoop started to escape to music, which ended up leading him to Dr. Dre, one of the most famed rappers of the time.

In 1993, Snoop Dogg released his debut album, Doggystyle, which immediately rocketed to the number one spot on both Billboard's hip-hop chart and its Top 200 chart. The album spawned popular singles like "Gin and Juice" and "What's My Name". Snoop quickly became one of the biggest rappers in the music industry, and music fans loved his unique, laid-back rapping style. Although he first started out in the industry as Snoop Doggy Dogg, he soon shortened it to Snoop Dogg, which has remained his most popular and well-known name throughout the course of his career. Since the 1990s, Snoop Dogg has been synonymous with the gangster rap movement, and he has had an enormous influence on the entire hip-hop scene since the very beginning of his career.

Snoop Dogg has even experienced great success as a music producer, as he started his own label, Dogg House Records, in the early 2000s. He has also been one of the most sought after collaborative artists in music, and has teamed up with major artists like 2Pac, Charlie Wilson, Jermaine Dupri, Nate Dogg, Pharrell, Justin Timberlake, R. Kelly, E-40, and so many more! There's no wonder why all of these incredible artists line up to work with Snoop Dogg – he is a phenomenally talented rapper.
