While playing for the Gamecocks, Rogers won the Heisman Trophy in 1980, and he was one of two players to be named the College Football Hall of Famers (alongside Sharpe and Gamecocks coaches Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier). Today, football fans heading to South Carolina's Williams-Brice Stadium will notice that the road that runs along the north end of the stadium has been named after the school's most famed football player, known as George Rogers Boulevard. Oddly enough, Sharpe mainly played linebacker in high school, though his receiving talent was recognized at South Carolina and he would go down as one of the greatest players in program history.
