South Carolina Gamecocks Baseball Schedule

Each year when at the start of the college baseball season there is no place in the country more excited than Columbia, South Carolina home of Carolina Stadium and the South Carolina Gamecocks. The Gamecocks have been a national powerhouse in college baseball since the Seventies and they regularly boast one of the best rosters in the entire country. South Carolina will be looking to make a return to the College World Series and hopefully bring home a third National Championship. There is no reason to believe that this goal is out of the realm of possibility as this year's line up is equal to if not better than the team that won back to back titles at the beginning of the decade.

The 2014 season kicks off on Valentine's Day at Carolina Stadium when the Bucknell Bison come to town for a three game series from February 14th through the 16th. Opening Day in Columbia is always a festive occasion so get out and support the Gamecocks right from the start. April 11th through 13th brings a three game home stand against SEC rivals the Florida Gators in what will likely be a big series when it comes to deciding final conference standings and potential College World Series berths. StubHub has the entire South Carolina Gamecocks schedule posted for your perusal so check it out and see when you can head out to Carolina Stadium for a Gamecocks game.

The Team

South Carolina stands as one of the most dominant programs in college baseball, but their astonishing success was not something they achieved right from the start. The Gamecocks played their first intercollegiate baseball game all the way back in 1895 but it was not until the 1970's that they really began their successful run. Much of the program's turnaround is credited to the hiring of Bobby Richardson, a former New York Yankees player, as their manager. Since then South Carolina has had a string of success most notably right at the turn of the Twenty-First Century. The Gamecocks have made the College World Series every year since 2000 including back to back championships in 2010 and 2011. Look for the 2013 squad to play as a team on a mission to reclaim their crown by winning the school's third national title.

The Experience

Nothing quite compares to the time honored tradition of taking in a college baseball game. After all, there is a reason baseball is regularly referred to as America's Pastime. From the smell of the freshly cut grass to the National Anthem echoing through the stands and the crack of the bat as a hitter connects with a pitch, to the sight of a ball flying over the outfield wall and the taste of a fresh hot dogs or Cracker Jacks, attending a baseball game is a a sensory experience like no other and the memories it produces will last a lifetime. The ultimate family day or night out, a baseball game is the perfect bonding experience whether seeing the game with family, friends, or co-workers. As the innings and pitches pile up everyone in attendance can feel the intensity pick up as every pitch, run, and base runner, begin to matter more and more. By the time the seventh inning stretch rolls around a break from the action is welcome just to settle the nerves and enjoy a traditional song before getting right back to all the excitement for the final two and a half innings. As you file out of the stadium after the last out you likely will already be wanting to start making plans for your next visit to the ballpark.

South Carolina Gamecocks SEC Baseball

The SEC Conference is usually thought of as a powerhouse football conference, and although this is true, the conference's history in college baseball should not be overlooked. Teams from the SEC are regulars in the championship series of the College World Series, with LSU having been in the finals 16 times and won it all 6 times and South Carolina making an appearance 11 times and winning it all twice. LSU went on a streak where they won five championships between 1991 and 2000. Every game in the SEC is capable of being a legendary match up so be sure to get your tickets ASAP.

South Carolina's 22 consecutive NCAA Tournament wins are an NCAA record as are the school's 12 straight College World Series wins. Forty two former Gamecocks have gone on to play in the Major Leagues including Brian Roberts, Jackie Bradley Jr., James Darnell, Steve Pearce, Michael Roth, and Justin Smoak are all currently on an MLB roster. The program has had six 50 win seasons to date with the most recent coming during their back to back championships seasons in 2010 and 2011. In 2012 the Gamecocks came just short of winning three straight National Championships when they finished as the runners up in the College World Series.
