South Carolina Gamecocks Basketball Team Info

The South Carolina Gamecocks have had some great seasons over the years, and usually that is a result of having some great players on the roster throughout their history of the program. That is certainly the case for the Gamecocks, who had one of the best scorers to ever pick up a basketball in Alex English. English posted some great seasons for the Gamecocks and eventually moved on to play in the National Basketball Association. English averaged more than 20 points per game over the course of his pro career, cementing his legacy as a player that was often unstoppable on the offensive end of the floor. With a great reputation for having superstar-level players, the Gamecocks have the type of team that always seems to be developing one great player or another, providing all the incentive you need to head out and see if the Gamecocks have what it takes to make their move in the SEC.

South Carolina Gamecocks Basketball History

The South Carolina Gamecocks basketball program goes back a long way, and fans have been enjoying watching this team hit the court for many years now. The Gamecocks won their first conference title, in the Southern Conference, in 1927, and would add three more conference crowns to their resume before moving to the Atlantic Coast Conference. The team won their lone ACC Championship in 1970 and eventually moved to the Southeast Conference. Since then, the Gamecocks have won multiple SEC titles, which is really saying something considering that the SEC is annually one of the toughest and most competitive conferences in the nation.

The Gamecocks have also been to the NCAA Tournament more than a handful of times, making it all the way to the Sweet Sixteen on three occasions in the 1970s. With a tradition of excellence in an elite conference, the Gamecocks are always out to prove that they can do a lot more than bring it on the gridiron, as these guys know their way around the hardwood as well from one season to the next. With a schedule lined up that will pit them against some of the very best basketball programs in the country, there has never been a more exciting time to be a Gamecocks' backer.
