In college sports, college
football is a sport that has fans flocking to see games every year. It is conferences like the Southwestern Athletic Conference
that keep the competition top-notch. The Southern Jaguars are a part of the Western Division of the SWAC, which means they
go up against Grambling State, Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The history of the Southern Jaguars football program is one of the richest in the Southwestern
Athletic Conference. The first Southern Jaguars football game took place in 1916. Two years later the school had its first
varsity team. In the many years since then, the Southern Jaguars have earned many accolades and made quite an impact on the
SWAC.
The Ace W. Mumford
Stadium is the home venue of the Southern Jaguars football team. The stadium is named after the winningest football coach
in the school's history, who helped the team earn nearly a dozen titles in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Mumford also
helped develop 35 All Americans throughout his long career with the Southern Jaguars.
The NCAA football world has
many die-hard fans, many of which call themselves Southern Jaguars fans. Those fans make it a point to head out to Mumford
