St. Louis Cardinals tickets - Cardinals tickets

Cardinals Update – Week of July 4

Just about midway through the season, the St. Louis Cardinals are exactly where everyone thought they would be – right back in the middle of yet another run towards the playoffs. Though the Brewers have swung their way to the top of the N.L. Central so far this season, the Cardinals have been playing very consistent baseball and are lurking within striking distance. With a team that can do a little bit of everything, the Cardinals are showing once again that they have one of the most complete rosters in the league, giving fans plenty of aspirations for the second half of the season in the process.

Front and center in the success of the first half for the Cardinals has been Adam Wainwright, who is having yet another Cy Young-caliber season as the ace of the pitching staff. With an ERA hovering right around 2.00 and double-digit wins already, Wainwright has been one of the very best pitchers in the entire league so far this season, giving the Cards a chance to win every time that he takes to the bump. Wainwright has also been fanning batters on the regular, leading the team with more than 100 strikeouts through his first 16 starts of the season.

Offensively, the Cards have also had a few major spark plugs, including a great fast of the season from Matt Adams as well as Allen Craig and Yadier Molina. Though Matt Carpenter has had a couple of rough patches, he's also shown what he's capable of when he starts swinging the stick like he's capable of, and the Cardinals know that it's likely only a matter of time before he breaks out in a big way. As the Cardinals look to continue being a major factor in the wide open N.L. Central, everyone knows that this is a team that you definitely need to keep your eye on.

Cardinals Update – Week of June 6

It comes as no surprise to fans around St. Louis that the Cardinals are right in the middle of another race towards the postseason. While the Pirates have struggled to keep up to their pace from last year, the Cardinals are still winning at a strong clip and remain right within striking distance of the division-leading Brewers – a team that started red hot and has since cooled off quite a bit. But the Cardinals continue to play very consistent baseball, and fans are expecting that it's only a matter of time before they turn in a few winning streaks that have them making a run at the top of the division.

The biggest reason remains their pitching staff, which has shown an ability to take down even some of the very best offenses in the league. The Cards are seventh or better in the entire league in ERA, quality starts, WHIP and opposing batting average, helping give them the type of consistency that makes it very difficult for the opposition to take a series. Leading the way, to no one's surprise, has been Adam Wainwright, who is back in top form and tops the team in most major categories through the first couple months of the season. Holding an ERA well below 2.50 and a WHIP below 1.00, Wainwright has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the National League this season, setting the Cards up for wins just about every fifth game.

It's also helped to have a guy like Trevor Rosenthal who tallied nine saves in May while holding a steady ERA of 3.46. With a balanced offense that has had plenty of clutch hits, mostly thanks to guys like Matt Adams, Yadier Molina, Matt Holiday and Allen Craig, the Cardinals can beat teams in plenty of different ways, giving fans plenty of optimism as the Cards look to continue making waves in the N.L. Central.

Cardinals Update – Week of May 2nd

The Cardinals are again looking like one of the top teams in the National League, with a 15-14 April record and showing that they have one of the most balanced teams in all of Major League Baseball. With two series wins against the Reds and series wins against the Pirates and Brewers to boot, the Cardinals continue to show that they have what it takes when they're battling directly with their N.L. Central standings, and fans are anticipating a move closer to the Brewers in the standings as they head into the second month of the season. With their series win against the Brewers, the hottest team in baseball so far, the Cardinals were just the second team this year to take a series against Milwaukee.

Of course, a major reason why the Cardinals are off to a strong start is because of their pitching staff, which ranks among the best staffs in the league in a variety of categories. After a month of the season, the Cardinals were in the top five in the MLB in opposing batting average, WHIP, ERA and quality starts, allowing an amazing.218 average to opposing hitters so far. It obviously helps when you have Adam Wainwright carving up the opposition, as the dominant right-hander racked up a 5-1 record and a jaw-dropping 1.20 ERA in his first six starts of the season.

With Wainwright dominating, the offense has also done some major damage as well, with Yadier leading the team in both batting average (.350) and on-base percentage (.377). Matt Holiday has also been a force to be reckoned with in the batter's box, knocking in 17 runs while Jhonny Peralta led the team with six homers in April. Looking at the upcoming schedule, the Cardinals have big series against the Cubs, the Braves and the Pirates on the road before coming home for games against the Cubs, the Braves and the Diamondbacks.

2014 St. Louis Cardinals Schedule

A team that doesn't need much of an introduction is St. Louis, a team that has been around for a while and always swings to be swinging their way towards the Fall Classic. The St. Louis Cardinals are ready to fly high yet against in 2014 as they eye a return to the World Series in 2014 after nearly taking down the whole thing a year ago. With plenty of amazing games on the schedule, from top-tier interleague matchups to highly anticipated games against divisional foes, this is a team that you don't want to miss out on this season as they look to round into form and give their fans a steady string of memorable wins. Once you're there watching the action the way it was meant to be seen, you'll be glad that you're not sitting anywhere else.

But it all really comes together when they have to take on their N.L. Central foes. The Cardinals will most certainly be giving it everything they have out on the baseball diamond when the Pittsburgh Pirates come to town. The Pirates were able to finish second in the National League Central standings last season, winning 94 games and earning a Wild Card berth into the playoffs. The Pirates should be in contention for the division title in 2014, which means that the Cardinals are going to have to play hard against Pittsburgh at home this year.

Another team that poses a threat to contend for the National League Central crown is the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds might have finished third in the divisional race in 2013, but their 90 wins were enough to get them into the postseason via Wild Card. The Reds have a potent lineup of sluggers that can put up a lot of runs in any given game, so the Cardinals know that their pitching staff has to bring its best when the Reds hit the field at Busch Stadium. No matter the different talented teams they have to take on, though, the Cardinals definitely aren't going to go quietly.

St. Louis Cardinals Team Info

The St. Louis Cardinals play in the National League Central division of Major League Baseball, a division that also features the Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs. The Cardinals had a fantastic 2013 season, winning the N.L. Central title and making it all the way to the World Series. The Cards were unable to defeat the Red Sox in the World Series, but still stood tall as the best team in the National League. This team always seems to be in contention for the pennant year in and year out, and 2014 should be no different. With a pitching staff that is rivaled by few teams in Major League Baseball, St. Louis could be in for another big season this year. The Cardinals are certainly hoping that is the case, as are their devoted fans who routinely pour into the stands to provide the perfect backdrop for all the biggest and most anticipated matchups of the season.

The MLB Experience

Major League Baseball is as good as it gets as far as the game of baseball is concerned. This league boasts all the best players from around the world, which is why fans love heading out to the ballpark to catch a game in person. Sure, watching the game form your living room can be decent, but nothing compares to seeing the best of the best hit the field and put on a show while you're right there in the stands. What you're sure to catch is the baseball spirit, something that lives inside of many an American. Make sure to head out to a game this season for a great time as the Cardinals look to put it all together in a season loaded with nail-biting moments that you'll be talking about a long time after the final pitch.

St. Louis Cardinals History

The St. Louis Cardinals were founded in 1892 as the St. Louis Brown Stockings. The team was renamed the St. Louis Perfectos for a single season in 1899 before settling on the St. Louis Cardinals the following year. The Cardinals have one of the most dedicated fan bases in Major League Baseball, largely due to their consistency and success over the years. The Cardinals have won the National League Pennant 19 times and been crowned World Series Champions 11 times, with some of the greatest players in history playing their best years for the franchise – like Stan Musial, Bob Gibson, Whitey Herzog and plenty of others.

St. Louis Cardinals Trivia

Who was the most recent St. Louis Cardinals player to win the Most Valuable Player award?

The answer is Albert Pujols, who took home the award in 2009. Pujols put together one of the greatest stretches of dominance in the batter's box in MLB history, lighting up the scoreboard and giving plenty of talented pitchers nightmares in the process.

The Fans

The St. Louis Cardinals have a rich history, and a team like that often has some incredibly loyal fans. That is certainly the case with the Cards, who boast one of the most passionate fan bases in Major League Baseball. That you can see for yourself when you head out to a game this season. The Cardinals always seem to be in contention no matter the year, and you'll find Busch Stadium to be packed to the brim with screaming fans on a regular basis. Be a part of it all this season by getting out to a game and getting knee-deep in the excitement as the Cards look to make it happen.

But don't make the mistake of thinking it's only about the home games, as road matchups can be every bit as exhilarating and will give you a completely different perspective on your favorite team. With a lineup that can do a little bit of everything and some of the top hurlers in the game, the Cards will be a big deal no matter where they take to the diamond this season, guaranteeing an exciting style of baseball that will make them one of the teams to beat in the N.L. Central once again.
