About The Band
Born in 1951 Philadelphia, finding interest in a
variety of musical instruments at a young age such as accordion, violin, and cello before finally deciding to stick with the
bass. He first found an interest in the bass when he arrived late to school on the exact day that instruments were being distributed
to students for music class, with bass being one of the only remaining interest. This was a fortuitous event, as Stanley went
on to become one of the most inspiring and talented artists of all time. After graduating from Philadelphia Music Academy,
he joined up with a myriad of bands in New York City that included famous musicians like Chick Corea, Stan Getz, Art Blakey,
Horace Silver, and many more. He first found success when he joined Chick Corea's group "Return To Forever", a jazz fusion
group that still stands as one of the biggest and most influential bands of the 70's. The group found incredible success through
their three critically acclaimed albums, but Clarke eventually began his solo career around the same time of the early 70's.
While creating solid work, Stanley Clarke hadn't really hit it big with his solo work until his 1976 album, "School Days",
which was a huge success and one of the most important bass works ever. His other notable solo works were "Stanley Clarke"
and "Journey to Love", but he would later find even more success with his work involving writing scores for film and television.
He has had immense commercial success with his musical scores for television and film, but he still finds incredible success
with his continued musical works, most recently winning a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album for his 2010 release
of "The Stanley Clarke Band".
With so many amazing albums that span over forty years,
it can be hard to narrow down a specific instance of music that brought Stanley Clarke to the platform of popularity and success
that he continues to enjoy to this day. However, it is likely that it was with his early solo work that Stanley first came
to prominence, starting with his self-titled 1974 album, and then gaining even more reputation with his 1975 album "Journey
To Love", and culminating in the 1976 masterpiece, "School Days". It was with School Days that he cemented himself as a master
of music, continuing to prove as much throughout the coming years with his awesome releases.
