Steel Panther Background
Frontman Ralph Saenz ("Michael Starr"), bassist Travis Haley ("Lexxi Foxxx"),
guitarist Russ Parrish ("Satchel") and drummer Darren Leader ("Stix Zadinia") feign to be a glam metal band that missed out
on its chance to become one of the who's who of hairbands in the '80s. They originally started out making the rounds at the
Sunset Strip Clubs at the dawn of the millennium. Back then, they were known as Metal Shop, later becoming Metal Skool and
then finally settled on Steel Panther. The act takes the concept of the '80s hair metal band to a whole new level with over-the-top
embellishments like big spiky wigs, spandex patterned with zebra stripes and those worn leather jackets. They gained their
experience from performing in a Van Halen cover band. Steel Panther has taken their satirical, exaggerated spin on sex, drugs
and rock and roll to the ultimate limits, which has struck a chord with fans, as evidenced by sold-out shows and some surprising
run-ins with commercial success. As their popularity amplified, the Hollywood crowd began to take notice. This led to some
open doors of opportunity: Steel Panther was cast as the band, Danger Kitty, in a Discover Card TV ad; they guest-starred
on The Drew Carey Show, playing themselves; and their tune "FF" served as the theme for the MTV show, Fantasy Factory. In
May 2008, the band inked a contract with Universal Republic. Following the release of singles "Community Property" and "Death
for All But Metal," Steel Panther's Feel the Steel dropped in October 2009. The album cracked the Billboard chart, landing
them a spot at 98 on the U.S. charts. Wanting to keep the momentum going, the band released Balls Out in 2011. The effort
featured guest appearances from Nickelback's frontman, Chad Kroeger, as well as comedian Dane Cook. And, All You Can Eat was
released in 2014.
