About Steel Panther

Steel Panther is a four man super show that is made up of Ralph Saenz's serenades, Darren Leader on percussion, Russ Parrish shredding guitar and Travis Haley slapping the bass that's been in existence for just shy of fifteen years. The band originally would be a local Los Angeles sensation, playing regional gigs under the stage names Metal Shop and Metal Skool, before finally arriving on the much more subtly metal moniker of Steel Panther. Before their big break, the band would be a fixture of the Monday night lineup at the LA Key Club, mixing metal grind sounds with comedic elements in covers of all the biggest and best glam rockers of the 70s and 80s.

By 2003 the band had perfected their element enough to venture into recording their debut album, which they would self produce and control without the help or influence of a major record label. They would gain acclaim from numerous circles within the metal community, receiving endorsements from glam metalists and sludge metalists alike. The band began performing a mix of original and cover material, picking up material from their favorite artists that ranged from Van Halen to the forefathers of the glam movement, KISS.

The band would become pop culture phenomenons, and soon were synonymous with the 00s glam metal revival movement. They would be featured regularly on television, with their most memorable appearance on the KISS oriented reality television series Gene Simmons Family Jewels. They would also appear in an episode of Las Vegas, as well as being the icons of Discover Card during the mid 00s when they portrayed the fictional metal band Danger Kitty.

After their 2008 name change to Steel Panther, the band restarted their musical image with a bang as their debut release climbed to #1 on the Billboard comedy chart. The band had become major figures on the rock scene by this time, as demonstrated by guest spots on their album that included Avenged Sevenfold's M. Shadows and Corey Taylor. While their sound remained rooted in comedy, they would compete with and pass major artists such as Lou Reed and Metallica on traditional rock charts, making their mark as genuine rockers as well as entertainers. With four full length albums and countless globe spanning tours, Steel Panther is showing no signs of slowing down as they continue to be an unstoppable force on the glam metal revival scene.

Previous Hits

The band's debut after their rename, 2009's Feel the Steel, would hit the #1 position on the US Comedy charts as well as #14 on the US Hard Rock charts and a respectable #98 on the US Billboard 200. The album fell under the production guidance of Jay Ruston, and featured comedian Sarah Silverman on the music video of "Death to All But Metal". The album scored well with critics, gaining near perfect scores from Kerrang! and Rock Sound as well as favorable ratings from BBC, The Independent, and Sputnikmusic. The album was carried by two hit singles, "Death to All But Metal" and "Community Property".

The band's much anticipated follow up Balls Out would drop in 2011, and eclipse the performance of Feel the Steel by huge margins. The album again topped the US Comedy chart, and also climbed to the #40 position on the Billboard 200 and #5 on the Hard Rock chart. The album made much critical ruckus, with a coveted perfect score from Rockstar Weekly and non stop praise from other major media outlets such as Revolver and Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles. The album featured crowd favorite hits "If You Really, Really Love Me", "It Won't Suck Itself", and "Weenie Ride".

Trivia

The band has produced a string of comedically inspired music videos, with some pushing the boundaries of what would qualify as public programming. See for yourself the movie magic contained in the music videos for "Pussywhipped', "Gloryhole", and "Fat Girl (Thar She Blows)".

Steel Panther was almost co-opted in its earlier days, with some of the members becoming heavily involved in a Van Halen cover band. Luckily for Steel Panther fans across the globe, the Van Halen tribute band just didn't pan out.
