Steel Pulse Background
Steel Pulse's origins date all the way back to 1975, when
school friends in Birmingham, England decided to form a band. The original members of the band were David Hinds, Basil Gabbidon,
and Ronald McQueen. Their music focused on the plight of urban black youth as well as the faraway image of their African homeland,
drenching their music with their Rastafarian beliefs. They eventually signed with Island Records, and they augmented their
band with several other musicians, including Selwyn "Bumbo" Brown, Steve "Grizzly" Nisbett, Alphonso Martin, and Mykaell Riley.
band made their official performing debut in 1980 at the Mudd Club in New York. One year later, when the legendary Bob Marley
died, Steel Pulse performed on the night of his funeral at a club in Washington D.C. in memory of the great reggae artist.

became so successful that they became the first non-Jamaican group to win a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. This undeniably
