The SteelDrivers originated in Nashville, Tennessee, when a group of highly respected, seasoned session players got together to jam. Soon after they were gigging for sold-out shows around Nashville and participating in a number of bluegrass festivals. They released their self-titled premiere album in January 2008, which peaked at No. 57 on the U.S. Billboard Top Country Albums chart. Their sophomore album, Reckless, garnered two Grammy nominations in 2010. The album was also nominated for both Best Bluegrass Album and Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for the song, Where Rainbows Never Die.
Weaving together their bluegrass roots with new threads of their own creation, the SteelDrivers have developed their own authentic identity, blending together soul, country and other modern inspirations. Since their inception, the band has earned three Grammy nominations and also won the International Bluegrass Music Association's award for Emerging Artist of the Year in 2009. That same year, SteelDrivers spent a week in Georgia, as part of the cast in the flick, Get Low, which starred Sissy Spacek, Robert Duvall and Bill Murray. The movie soundtrack included four songs by the SteelDrivers. The band drew more attention when English pop sensation, Adele, started performing the SteelDriver tune, If It Hadn't Been For Love. Additionally, the band has been invited to perform on countless radio and TV shows, ranging from NPR's Mountain Stage to The Grand Ole Opry to the Conan O'Brien show.
