Steve Miller Band Background
After moving from Chicago back to San Francisco, Steve Miller found himself in the
heart of one of the world's biggest psychedelica scenes, which happened to be the perfect environment to kick off his next
project, the Steve Miller Blues Band. Almost immediately, the band received a record deal with Capitol Records, and they were
on their way to international stardom. Shortly after signing with Capitol Records, the group changed its name to the Steve
Miller Band to shorten it, but they still held on tight to their bluesy roots.
Although the band's first album failed
to chart, the Steve Miller Band achieved significant success with their second album, Sailor, which peaked at number 24 on
the Billboard charts. One of the most popular songs on this album included the rock hit "Living in the USA", which helped
propel the album higher and higher on the charts. One of the Steve Miller Band's crowning glories was their 1973 album, The
Joker, which was one of the band's most distinctive sounding records, veering away from psychedelica and focusing more on
straight rock. The album's title track reached the number one spot on music charts and went on to be certified platinum.
