Steve Vai was born June 6, 1960, and raised in New York where he grew up listening and being inspired by other artists like Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and Alice Cooper. While Vai was attending Berklee School of Music in Boston, he perfected his guitar skills and eventually was asked to be and became a part of Frank Zappa's band.
