Born in Brussels, Paul Van Haver demonstrated a passion for music at the age of 11 and studied
at the Academie musicale de Jette. There he learned about music history and how to play the drums. This was his initial experience
with music theory.
He appeared as a rapper dubbed Opmaestro in 2000. He eventually changed his name to Stromae. When
he was 18, he formed a rap group coined Suspicion along with J.E.D.I. – a rapper. Together, they produced the tune and
music video "Faut que t'arrete le Rap …" Later on, J.E.D.I. exited the rap duo. In order to fund his private school
education, he took a part-time job in the hospitality industry, but his school performance wasn't up to par. Eventually, he
enrolled at the Institut national de radioelectricite et cinematographie and issued his debut album,Juste un cerveau, un flow,
un fond et un mic.
In 2009, Stromae's job at the time was working as a trainer at NRJ, a musical radio station, in Brussels.
Music manager Vincent Verbelen was taken with Stromae's debut single, "Alors on danse." Verbelen was responsible for putting
it on the airwaves the first time. The response was immense. An impressive roster of listeners included Jean-Claude Van Damme
and Anna Wintour to then French president Nicolas Sarkozy. Stromae instantly catapulted to success and in just a few weeks
after his song debuted sales cemented him as No. 1 in Belgium.
He inked a global licensing deal with Vertigo Records.
By late spring of 2010, "Alors on danse" has climbed to No. 1 in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Turkey,
Austria, Denmark, Romania, Czech Republic, Italy and Switzerland. In the fall of 2010, Stromae worked with Kanye West on a
remix of "Alors on danse." His efforts resulted in a nod for "Best Dutch and Belgian Act" at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
on his music and its inspirations, Stromae said, "I was in a little group doing rap music. I thought that rather than copying
the French sound, I'd focus on a more American style but give it a European spin. And then I rediscovered '90s Eurodance.
For a long time we were ashamed of that sound but in fact there's a lot to discover, it has its roots in everything from house
to salsa. I also really admire Jacques Brel – he has been a huge influence on me – but also all sorts of other
stuff, Cuban son, and the Congolese rumba, that I heard as a child; that music rocked the whole of Africa."
Stromae's sophomore effort, featuring the single "Papaoutai." It scored No. 1 in France and Belgium and No. 2 in the Netherlands,
along with the No. 7 slot in Switzerland and Germany. Most recently, Stromae's song "Ta fete" was chosen as the official song
at the 2014 World Cup for the Belgian football selection.

EP,Juste un cerveau, un flow, un fond et un mic …, arrived in 2007. His sophomore single, "Up Saw Liz" came out in 2009.Mixture
Elecstrowas his second mixtape, which dropped in 2010. In September 2009, "Alors on danse" was the lead-off track from his
first studio album. The song served as his breakthrough tune, garnering him tremendous global success.Cheesewas his first
studio album, and "Te Quiero" was issued as the second single from the album, landing at No. 4 in Belgium. "House'llelujah"
was put out as the third track from the album, climbing to No. 22 in Belgium. In 2013,Racine Carreearrived. The three singles
that comprised this album shot to No. 1 in both Belgium and France.
