Sun Bowl Stadium History
Sun Bowl Stadium, opened in 1963, is best known to the sports world as the home of the
University of Texas at El Paso Miners football team and as such has been the site for numerous classic college football games.
Located on the campus of UTEP, Sun Bowl Stadium fills up with enthusiastic students, alumni, and locals aiming to cheer the
Miners on to a big victory in Conference USA. Texas is a state well known for its love of football and this will be abundantly

stadium was expanded in 1982 to allow for more fans and then completely renovated in 2006 to stay up to date.

UTEP Miners football is clearly the main attraction at Sun Bowl Stadium, and catching an NCAA football
game at the historic venue is certainly a must, but there is plenty going on at Sun Bowl Stadium even when it is not college
football season. The venue hosts big soccer matches from international friendlies to neutral site matches for Liga MX teams.

Sun Bowl Stadium seats 51,500 fans and when it is filled to capacity with thousands of enthusiastic

In 2007 Sun
Bowl Stadium was home to the unique Texas vs. The Nation, an all-star college football game which was won by The Nation 24-20.
